Commodities Trial Begins: Jury selection began in Chicago in one of two trials of traders indicted in a wide-ranging government sting operation at the city’s futures exchanges. Involved are 14 Japanese yen futures traders and 11 soybean futures traders, facing multiple charges of racketeering, fraud and violating commodity trading laws. In the third plea in the two weeks leading up to the trials, soybean broker Bruce Mittelstadt pleaded guilty to two fraud counts in exchange for testimony for the prosecution.
