SANTA ANA : Ground Broken for Another New School

The Santa Ana Unified School District celebrated the groundbreaking of yet another new elementary school Wednesday.
James A. Garfield Elementary School, which will be built at 405 N. Lacy St., is the latest project in the district’s $225-million construction program. The district is building schools at a rate of about two per year to house an ever-growing student population.
The district, already the largest in Orange County with 43 schools and about 43,000 students, projects continued growth into the year 2000 when enrollment is expected to top 62,000, said spokeswoman Diane Thomas.
Garfield Elementary, scheduled to open in September, 1991, will include a two-story building with 11 classrooms.
