Brown to Lead Long Beach CLO

Barry Brown, a co-producer of two celebrated revivals of “Gypsy,” was named the new producer/artistic director of the Long Beach Civic Light Opera on Wednesday.
Barring any last-minute hitches, Brown will replace Martin Wiviott, who recently moved from the Long Beach job to a similar post at Los Angeles Civic Light Opera.
Brown co-produced revivals of “Gypsy” starring Angela Lansbury in 1974 and Tyne Daly in 1989, picking up Tonys for the 1989 edition and for co-producing “La Cage aux Folles” in 1984.
He produced more than 10 Broadway shows with his late partner, Fritz Holt, including Bette Midler’s “Clams on the Half Shell” and a revival of Kaufman and Ferber’s “The Royal Family.”
He also co-produced “Broadway Sings the Music of Jule Styne” for PBS.
