Tierrasanta’s Jim Madaffer calls the Jackson Drive extension “vital” and Councilwoman Judy McCarty says the road will “enhance” Mission Trails Regional Park. But they are terribly inconsistent in their views.
Madaffer’s community successfully scotched the Clairemont Mesa Boulevard connector to the proposed extension, saying the road was unnecessary, would increase traffic in Tierrasanta and would be a hazard to children at a nearby school. San Carlos-area residents oppose the extension for similar reasons, but Madaffer now calls their concerns “emotional.”
When the Clairemont Mesa Boulevard connector was deleted, McCarty was quoted as saying, “It is unnecessary, it delves further into the park, it destroys more parkland.” Yet she now claims the Jackson Drive extension will not despoil the park.
The only thing “vital” in respect to the extension is that the City Council reject it. By doing so, the council will be able to redirect multimillions of scarce taxpayer dollars to needed road improvements throughout the city, and at the same time preserve our precious parkland.
