One youth was arrested but no one was hurt in a spate of fights between students at Lynwood High School Wednesday, the last day of the school year, authorities said.
Of the about 3,000 students on campus, an estimated 100 were involved in the approximately 15 brawls that erupted about 1 p.m. outside classes at the school, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Sgt. Don Slawson said. No reason for the violence was immediately clear.
“I think some people were just feeling their oats,” Slawson said.
Sheriff’s deputies converged on the campus, “emptying the whole school and sending everybody home,” Slawson said. Order was restored by about 2 p.m., he said.
One youth was arrested, but details were not immediately available. He was not identified because of his age.
School officials declined comment.
