Retailing Goes South: South County is becoming a new hot spot for retailers. While the Irvine Co. has been trying for years to round up some big stores for a regional mall it plans in the giant Irvine Spectrum business park, the company said recently it is also mulling a smaller shopping center nearby to be focused on family entertainment such as movie theaters and restaurants. No specific plans or dates for construction have been set, says the giant Newport Beach-based landowner.
