TWA Plans to Sell 20 Planes: Trans World Airlines Chairman Carl C. Icahn has disclosed plans to sell 20 Boeing 727s in what union officials called another scare tactic in his bid to gain concessions from pilots. Icahn has promised to modernize TWA’s fleet if pilots take 10% pay cuts and agree to other concessions that would save $80 million a year. He has threatened to shrink or dismantle the troubled carrier if they refuse. Kent Scott, chairman of the TWA branch of the Air Line Pilots Assn,. said Icahn may only be trying to get rid of the old, relatively inefficient jets.
