S.F. Official Peeved at ‘Peaks’: San Francisco Supervisor Angela Alioto has denounced last week’s season finale of ABC’s “Twin Peaks” because of a scene in which two characters cut their fingers and rubbed them together in a blood-brother ritual. Alioto said she’ll send a letter urging ABC and the show’s producers to provide some form of AIDS education or a public-service announcement stressing the dangers of exchanging blood. She said that the scene outraged many in the AIDS education community and sent “a dangerous message to children and young adults.” But in light of the series’ reputation for strange and convoluted plot twists, the transmission of AIDS from the murderous ex-con Hank Jennings (Chris Mulkey) to the scheming mill owner Josie Packard (Joan Chen) by way of this blood-sharing ritual might all be part of the story line.
