BOGOTA, Colombia — Police on Saturday seized up to two tons of high explosives in Bogota and arrested six men suspected of planning a wave of bomb attacks before today’s presidential election, local radio said.
A police officer confirmed that a large consignment of explosives was impounded but said details would be made public later.
The seizure occurred hours after a bomb exploded Friday night in a northwestern suburb of Bogota, injuring at least five people. Three bombings earlier in the week killed 11 peoplein Medellin, home of a notorious cocaine cartel.
Authorities believe all the bombings are the work of drug traffickers trying to sabotage the elections.
