NEW YORK — Easy Goer, last year’s Belmont Stakes winner, made an impressive debut as a 4-year-old Wednesday, carrying Pat Day to a 7 1/2-length victory in the $47,200 Gold Stage Stake at Belmont Park.
Easy Goer, runner-up to Sunday Silence in last year’s Kentucky Derby and Preakness before winning the Belmont, covered seven furlongs on the muddy track in 1:22 1/5 while being hand-ridden throughout. He caught front-running Hadif with the mildest encouragement from Day and won easily depite racing extremely wide.
