Republican Assembly candidate Robert L. Scott is offering a $500 reward for information leading to the conviction of a man who reportedly shot at a campaign worker Saturday in Northridge.
Abe Tejeda, 27, was posting a Scott campaign sign in a vacant lot at 20417 Nordhoff St. at 10 a.m. when a man in a yellow pickup truck shouted and aimed a handgun at him, Los Angeles Police Detective Michael Brandt said. Tejeda, an employee of Candidates’ Outdoor Graphic Service Inc. (COGS), an El Monte company that designs and posts campaign signs, jumped behind a bush and heard what he thought was a gunshot, Brandt said.
The man in the truck sped away. Police did not recover a bullet. Tejeda was not injured.
Scott, who is running for the 38th Assembly District seat, recalled volunteers walking precincts after the incident. “If there is some nut out there, I don’t want to put my volunteers at risk,” he said in a prepared statement.
Campaign coordinator Ellen Fitzmaurice said campaign volunteers probably will return to walking precincts this weekend. COGS workers resumed posting signs Monday.
“We’re hoping the shooting was a random act,” Fitzmaurice said.
