A family of three was in critical condition Monday, and a motorist was accused of felony drunk driving after a car struck the couple and their 2 1/2 year-old daughter as they crossed a street in National City, police said.
The family was crossing the intersection of 21st Street and Highland Avenue at about 8 p.m. Sunday when a car allegedly driven by Arturo Torres, 38, of Chula Vista hit them as he drove south on Highland.
Carlos Humberto Aragon-Mendez, 41, underwent surgery for internal injuries at UC San Diego Medical Center. His wife, Oselia, 22, suffered multiple fractures and is at Sharp Memorial Hospital. The couple’s daughter, Rosa Marie, is at Children’s Hospital. All were in critical condition.
