NATION : Disgraced Honecker Elusive

BEELITZ, East Germany — Disgraced former East German leader Erich Honecker dodged photographers today when he was seen strolling through woods at the Soviet military hospital where he now lives under guard.
Showing remarkable alertness for his 77 years, the once-feared former Communist Party chief and head of state spotted the cameras as he emerged from the forest with two uniformed Soviet army officers.
As Honecker ducked behind a tree and poked his head around the trunk, one of the officers escorted the photographers away from the grounds of the hospital, a military sanatorium near Potsdam.
