Santa Monica : Center Receives $1 Million

The Senior Health and Peer Counseling Center in Santa Monica has received a $1-million grant from the Mark Taper Foundation, bringing the total amount raised in the center’s financial development campaign to $4.2 million.
The center is a private, nonprofit organization that provides mental and physical health services to older adults in the Los Angeles area.
Last year, the center provided health services, such as disease prevention for healthy adults and aid to the frail, isolated and chronically mentally ill elderly, to more than 10,000 people, an increase of 20% over the previous year. Another 14,000 people participated in training and educational activities at the center at 2125 Arizona Ave.
The center’s board of directors said it plans to commemorate the foundation’s grant, the largest it has ever received, by naming its headquarters the Mark Taper Center.
The Mark Taper Foundation was founded 37 years ago by retired financier S. Mark Taper.
