L.A.’s Powerful ‘Little Kings’

In reference to the article “A Latino District Is Not Possible, County Agrees” (Metro, April 7):
It seems ludicrous to me that Los Angeles County supervisors in their power-hungry greed would spend $2.5 million of our hard-earned tax dollars to keep a Latino from being elected to serve on that august governing body.
Not only are they throwing our money away to defeat a cause that deserves every right to succeed and is destined inevitably to succeed, but they are wasting $2.5 million desperately needed to solve problems of public emergency.
Perhaps the law firm defending the county needs the $2.5 million as much as the public welfare does, but to paraphrase Winston Churchill, “Never have so few taken so much from so many to fight against a noble cause whose time has come.”
It is inevitable that no matter what is said in court or in the back rooms at the Board of Supervisors, the people will be represented in government. It is called democracy; it is happening all over the world and Los Angeles can be no exception.
