General Electric: Profit rose 12% to $950 million in the first quarter due to new orders in its aircraft engine and power systems divisions. Revenue climbed 6% to $12.6 billion. Other divisions of the Fairfield, Conn.-based company that posted higher earnings were lighting, medical systems, transportation systems and electrical distribution and controls.
