Hikers Find Skeletal Remains in Canyon

County medical examiners will conduct tests to determine the identity of a person whose bones were found by weekend hikers in a remote canyon north of Chatsworth, sheriff’s deputies said Sunday.
Little was known about the skeletal remains found by hikers Saturday near Browns Canyon Road, about one mile south of a California Conservation Corps camp, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputy George Ducoulombier said. A pair of blue jeans was found beside the remains, he said.
The Los Angeles County Coroner’s office will try to find out how and when the person died, Ducoulombier said. So far, authorities are unable to determine from the remains whether the dead person was male or female, he said.
