One person was killed and another injured this morning when their car went out of control and tumbled down an embankment on the Antelope Valley Freeway, authorities said.
Jimmy Campbell, 39, of Los Angeles, was in stable condition at County-USC Medical Center’s jail ward after the 2 a.m. accident north of Escondido Canyon Road, said Officer Ralph Elvira of the California Highway Patrol.
Elvira said Campbell was arrested on suspicion of felony drunk driving after the accident, which killed an unidentified female passenger. The woman was thrown from the car as it rolled down the embankment. She died at the scene, Elvira said.
Campbell was driving north on the freeway when he lost control of his car, Elvira said. The car veered onto the right shoulder and struck a guardrail before it went down the embankment, overturning several times.
