CS Long Beach, Arizona State Play in NIT

TEMPE, Ariz. — Cal State Long Beach (22-8), which figured to be playing in the NCAA tournament, plays Arizona State (15-15) in a first-round National Invitation Tournament game here tonight at 6 p.m. (PST).
This is the 49ers’ second NIT appearance in the last three seasons.
CS Long Beach had won nine consecutive games until it lost to Nevada Las Vegas, 92-74, Sunday in the final of the Big West tournament. The 49ers learned at halftime that they needed to beat UNLV to gain an NCAA tournament berth.
Freshman guard Lucious Harris, who scored 75 points in the Big West tournament, leads the 49ers with a 14-point average.
Arizona State is led by 6-foot-6 Alex Austin and his 6-10 brother, Isaac. They combine for 31 points and 14 rebounds a game.
