COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Colorado Outclasses CSUN Women in Tennis

The Cal State Northridge women’s tennis team got a taste of Division I competition Friday, and the Matadors absorbed a 6-3 defeat to Colorado in Las Vegas.
Colorado took five of the six singles matches. Northridge’s Allison Kincaid and Cathie Teobaldi won the No. 1 doubles match, 6-0, 6-0.
Northridge fell to 6-4.
MEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Pierce d. Canyons, 15-8, 15-6, 15-7--Ed Gilson and Chad Blatchley had 11 kills for Pierce (8-1, 8-1) in a South Coast Conference match at Pierce.
SOFTBALL
Bakersfield 2, Canyons 1 (14 innings)--Chris Tate’s single with one out in the bottom of the 14th inning drove in Tina Autry with the winning run in the Western State Conference opener at Bakersfield.
Cindy Barraza (8-6) went the distance for Bakersfield.

Santa Monica 10, Pierce 3--Pierce made eight errors in a WSC opener at Santa Monica. Wendy McRay homered for Pierce (1-7 overall).
Moorpark 10, Cuesta 0--Robin Thomas (6-2) scattered four hits while pitching a shutout in a WSC opener at Cuesta.
Jamie Heggen hit a solo home run for Moorpark (6-3 overall) and teammate Missy Cress drove in three runs.
MEN’S TRACK
Glendale 59, Ventura 58, Moorpark 57, Canyons 12--Rick Provenzano won the 800 and 1,500 meters to lead Glendale in a four-way Western State Conference meet at Ventura.
Glendale (10-1 in WSC) got a victory, in 3:25.1, from its 1,600-meter relay team to seal the win.
WOMEN’S TRACK
Moorpark 76, Glendale 61, Ventura 39--Nicole Jimenez won the 800, 1,500 and 3,000 meters for Glendale (9-2 overall) in a WSC meet at Ventura.
