AT&T;’s Toll-Free 800 Numbers Break Down

NEWARK, N.J. — As many as 200 AT&T; customers with toll-free 800 numbers, including the Internal Revenue Service, were left without service for nearly 1 1/2 hours Friday, the second time in a month that the phone company has experienced a major service problem.
American Telephone & Telegraph Co. blamed the latest problem on a maintenance error.
