A resurgent men’s basketball team at Cal State Dominguez Hills can snap a three-way tie for third place in the California Collegiate Athletic Assn. and tighten its grasp on a postseason playoff spot with a pair of victories this weekend.
A week ago the Toros were tied for last place in the CCAA, but back-to-back wins over Chapman College evened their conference record at 4-4. They are now tied with Cal State Northridge and Cal State Los Angeles, the two teams that visit Carson this weekend.
Dominguez Hills (8-13 overall) puts a three-game winning streak on the line tonight against Northridge (9-12), which has lost four straight. Cal State L.A. (11-10), which plays at Chapman tonight, has won three straight and will meet Dominguez Hills on Saturday in Toro Gymnasium. Both games begin at 8:05 p.m.
As part of double-headers, the women’s teams play at 5:45 each night. The Lady Toros (1-6 in the CCAA) have lost 10 of their last 12 games and are tied with Cal State L.A. (7-14 overall) for last place. Northridge (9-13, 6-1) is in second place in the CCAA, a game behind Cal Poly Pomona.
The top four teams in both the men’s and the women’s races advance to the CCAA postseason tournament.
