McDonnell Wins $1.3-Billion Order: McDonnell Douglas announced that KLM Royal Dutch Airlines will buy 10 of its new wide-body MD-11 tri-jets in an order worth $1.3 billion. McDonnell Douglas said the order, which includes spare parts and services, was the largest ever made by KLM, the Netherlands national carrier. The company, which builds the long-range jets at its Douglas Aircraft Co. facility in Long Beach, said the KLM order included options on five more MD-11s. If KLM exercises the options, the value of the deal could reach about $2 billion.
