LAGUNA BEACH : Extension Rejected for One-Way Stretch

City officials have rejected a plan to change the remaining two-way strip of Ocean Avenue to a one-way section.
The discussion about this option began in 1985, when city staffers recommended altering the street to create more parking spaces from Forest Avenue to Coast Highway. At that time, the City Council decided to make Ocean Avenue one-way from Forest Avenue to Beach Street.
Despite the City Council’s voting down the one-way proposal, Councilman Dan Kenney predicted the issue will come up again. The council’s committee on parking, traffic and circulation will again address Ocean Avenue as part of a future comprehensive study of all downtown streets.
“I don’t think it’ll ever change,” Kenney said. “People are concerned about more traffic dumping” onto Coast Highway.
