ORLANDO, Fla. — Rare green sea turtles that were rescued from icy coastal waterways were released in Mosquito Lagoon at the Kennedy Space Center on Tuesday, after recuperating at Sea World marine park in Orlando.
They were among 160 sea turtles that were plucked from shallow waters in the lagoon and the Indian River following freezing weather in late December. The rest were taken to other shelters.
At least 17 of the turtles, which ranged in age from 1 to 5 years, and many manatees were found dead after the freeze.
