Pepsico Inc.: The soft drink, snack food and restaurant company said net income for 1989 rose 18% to a record $901.4 million on a sales gain of almost 22% to $15.2 billion. The Purchase, N.Y.-based company credited operating margin improvements in each of its three business segments, along with strong volume growth in snack foods, including the Ruffles, Fritos and Santitas brands, and restaurants. Pepsico owns the Taco Bell, Pizza Hut and Kentucky Fried Chicken chains.
