The owner of a defunct used car dealership in Mission Viejo was sentenced Tuesday to serve seven months in Orange County Jail after pleading guilty to six counts of grand theft.
Assadollah Shajary, who operated Grand Auto Imports from 1983 to late 1987, entered the plea as he was about to begin trial on eight felony grand theft counts. He was accused of buying vehicles, including Mercedes Benzes and BMWs, from other dealers, selling them from his own lot and then stopping payment on the checks he had written to the original dealers. Total value of the cars was $158,000.
As part of his sentence, Shajary will be placed on three years’ probation when he is released from jail. He also has agreed to make restitution to his victims.
