‘Why Not a Police Corps?’
A Police Corps is needed in today’s society. The safety and security in our cities has greatly deteriorated due to the increase in gang violence and decrease in new police recruits.
Being a student, I think that a Police Corps is a marvelous idea. The scholarship program would enable students from low-income homes to go to college as well as enable them to help improve safety in their communities.
The Police Corps would make it possible for recruits to live at home without risk of being stationed out of state of even out of the country (as in the military).
I think that the view that many members of the Police Corps will not be commited to public safety is very wrong. I cannot count how many young Americans there are who would love to help their country as well as get a college education.
Many students will probably take advantage of this program due to the fact that they are guaranteed a job right out of college, and after four years on the force they have the choice of doing what they really want. Many officers may choose to stay on the force.
