French Firm Buys Butter at Cut Rate

WASHINGTON — A French dairy products firm bought 5,000 metric tons of surplus U.S. butter for $8.1 million, or the equivalent of 73.5 cents a pound, the Agriculture Department said.
The government spends $1.32 a pound to buy surplus butter as part of the U.S. dairy price support program. There are 2,204.6 pounds in a metric ton.
The butter was sold to Fromageries Dischamp of Sayat, France.
