WORLD IN BRIEF : ECUADOR : At Least 6 Killed in Air Show Crash

An Ecuadorean air force fighter jet performing at an air show crashed into a residential neighborhood on the outskirts of Guayaquil, killing the pilot and at least five people on the ground, officials said. The plane, an Israeli-built Kfir, slammed into a two-story apartment complex in the suburb of La Atarazana, near an air force base about 170 miles southwest of the capital of Quito, witnesses said. They said the pilot was unable to recover from an inverted loop before hitting the ground. Flames from the impact engulfed five adjoining houses, the witnesses said.
