Four men stole an estimated $300,000 worth of jewels Friday in an armed robbery of a jewelry store on Ventura Boulevard in Tarzana, Los Angeles police reported.
The robbers, two of them carrying handguns, burst into the Selected Merchandise store about 10:30 a.m., Detective Bud Mehringer said. They smashed a display case, grabbed the jewels and fled, he said.
The four were seen leaving in a black Cherokee Jeep, which was found abandoned several blocks from the store, Mehringer said.
It was not known how many employees or customers were in the store, he said. No shots were fired, and no one was hurt, he said.
