Suspension Forces Westervelt to Miss Alhambra Game

Hart High quarterback Rob Westervelt, the leading passer in the Valley area, will not play tonight against Alhambra after Hart officials suspended him for three days this week for his involvement in an on-campus fight.
Westervelt (6-foot-3, 210 pounds), a senior, has completed 76 of 134 passes for 1,229 yards and an area-high 14 touchdowns. He said that he will return to school and game action next week.
“It was circumstances beyond my control,” Westervelt said. “I’m serious. I tried to avoid anything that would get me into trouble. . . . I backed off as much as I could.
“I feel awful about it. But, unfortunately, I have to suffer the consequences.”
Hart Coach Mike Herrington declined comment.
Westervelt said that senior tight end Chad Fotheringham will start at quarterback in the Foothill League game at College of the Canyons.
Westervelt was an All-Southern Section Division III selection last season, passing for 2,130 yards and 21 touchdowns.
