ON THE SIDELINES : Network Signs Ex-Mets Carter

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. — Former New York Mets star catcher Gary Carter, now a free agent, has signed an agreement to provide color analysis for Prime Network’s cable television coverage of the new Senior Professional Baseball Assn.
Play-by-play announcer Tommy Hutton also is joining the telecast team. He and Carter will work together on the network’s first telecast, Nov. 3, featuring the Gulf Coast Suns at the West Palm Beach Tropics.
Hutton, a former player with the Montreal Expos and Philadelphia Phillies, has provided both radio and television commentary for the New York Yankees in recent years, as well as television commentary for the Expos.
Carter, an 11-time National League All-Star, holds several major league records. He is a career .265 hitter with 304 home runs to his credit, 59th on the all-time list.
