Capistrano Valley Pulls Away for Victory

SAN CLEMENTE — Capistrano Valley scored three fourth-quarter touchdowns to pull away to a 31-6 South Coast League victory over host San Clemente Friday.
Halfback Paul Shaheen scored on runs of seven and 42 yards in the quarter to help Capistrano Valley (6-0) break open a close game. Capistrano Valley, ranked third in Orange County, led only 10-6 after three quarters.
Quarterback Tony Solliday hit Dan Zamora with a 21-yard touchdown pass in between Shaheen’s fourth-quarter scores. Solliday finished 19 for 22 for 270 yards and two touchdowns; Shaheen rushed 15 times for 86 yards and two scores.
The Cougars struggled against San Clemente’s rushing defense in the first two quarters. San Clemente (3-3) limited Capistrano Valley to two yards rushing in the first half and sacked Solliday five times.
