‘Bays Ball’ Is Too Far Out in Left Field for Bush to See Game

WASHINGTON — List President Bush as doubtful for this year’s World Series.
Bush, an avid baseball fan who played at Yale and still keeps his college mitt in his desk, had said earlier he hoped to attend one of the games.
But that was before the San Francisco Giants and Oakland Athletics made the Series a West Coast affair. (Story, Part III, Page 1.) The White House indicated today that Bush probably won’t be able to make it.
Presidential spokesman Marlin Fitzwater, asked if Bush would attend a game, said: “No plans at the moment. I doubt that he will, frankly.”
The first Bay Area World Series opens Saturday night in the Oakland Coliseum, home of the American League champion A’s.
