LONDON — Britain’s Princess Anne, president of the International Equestrian Federation, unveiled a new anti-cruelty campaign today aimed at protecting horses in worldwide competition.
Queen Elizabeth II’s daughter, speaking at the Horse of the Year Show at Wembley Arena, said security will be stepped up and drug-testing increased to eradicate what little physical abuse exists in the sport.
Princess Anne said paid officials will be hired to oversee 24-hour security at events. Video cameras may be introduced into stables, she said. A new anti-doping program will begin Jan. 1, the princess said.
