Los Angeles County sheriff’s detectives confiscated about 200 blank immigration registration cards, nearly $11,000 in cash and several firearms in the arrest Tuesday of a 38-year-old man, apparently an undocumented alien, in his Los Angeles apartment, authorities said.
Detectives, armed with a search warrant, arrested Francisco Morales Pena at his apartment in the 1200 block of Bonnie Brae Street. Authorities were relying on information from an unnamed source in an earlier case, Deputy Gabe Ramirez said.
Detectives also seized about 200 blank Social Security cards and green plastic material used for laminating the immigration cards, Ramirez said.
“The green card and the Social Security identification are the two major items needed for any alien to prove that they are legal in the United States,” he said. “It appears that he (Pena) had either been selling them or was getting ready to sell them.”
Pena was booked for suspicion of receiving stolen property. He was being held without bail on order of the Immigration and Naturalization Service.
