Police on Wednesday released a suspect they had detained in connection with the apparent beating death of an 11-month-old girl.
Investigators have made no arrests but are continuing to interview witnesses in the case, according to Maureen Thomas, a Police Department spokeswoman. She would not identify the man they had detained or say whether he is related to the dead child.
“He’s been released, but he may be questioned again tonight,” she said.
An autopsy was conducted Wednesday on the baby girl, whose severely bruised body was found in her parents’ North Durant Street apartment Tuesday morning. However, police are withholding the coroner’s findings while the investigation continues, Thomas said.
The victim’s 5-year-old brother, who suffered cuts to the mouth, has been placed in protective custody at the Orangewood Children’s Home, officials said.
