Fairchild Industries Inc.: The Chantilly, Va.-based firm, which has interests in aerospace fasteners, tooling for plastics and communications services, reported a second-quarter net loss of $12.8 million, contrasted with earnings of $10.2 million a year ago. Profit in the 1988 quarter included a $2.5-million gain on the sale of a discontinued operation and a $3.7-million tax benefit from the utilization of net operating loss carryforwards. Sales increased 3% to $80.6 million. The results reflected nonrecurring pretax charges of $18.4 million due to restructuring activities and the acquisition of the company by Banner Industries Inc. for $265 million in June.
