Japan Delays Stock Sale: Japan delayed a planned sale of shares in Nippon Telephone & Telegraph Corp., the giant telecommunications company that was enmeshed in a bribery scandal that rocked the government earlier this year. The government said it had decided against selling any shares now because of fears that a sale would hurt the fragile Tokyo stock market. The government had been expected to sell about 1.95 million shares in the company as part of its privatization program.
