Writer Katherine Ainsworth Dies

Katherine Ainsworth, 80, Western historian and a longtime member of several groups devoted to Western lore, among them the Los Angeles Corral of the Westerners and the Death Valley 49ers, died Thursday at her daughter’s home in San Diego.
Over the years she wrote several books on the Old West, among them a volume called “The McCallum Saga,” about the pioneer Palm Springs family, and one titled “In the Shade of the Juniper Tree,” about Father Junipero Serra.
She is survived by a second daughter and several grandchildren.
