Jose Canseco of the Oakland A’s signed a negotiated plea of no contest and was found guilty of a misdemeanor charge of carrying a loaded pistol in his car.
Canseco signed a waiver of his rights and agreed to the plea in exchange for three years of unsupervised probation. He will contribute 80 hours of visits to hospital pediatric wards and will take 100 underprivileged children to ballgames.
He also agreed to be searched by police at any time, according to the decision by San Francisco Municipal Judge J. Dominique Olcomendy. The judge said, however, that if Canseco believes he is being harassed by needless searches, he could petition to have that condition dropped.
Canseco did not appear for the brief court session.
