Buena Park police arrested a 34-year-old Lakewood man on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon after he allegedly held three people hostage for more than an hour early Saturday.
Police were called to 8881 Grant Circle around midnight after neighbors reported that shots were fired from inside the home. When police arrived, the gunman fired at the officers, Sgt. Mike Schwartz said.
The suspect, identified as David Chen, surrendered to police at 1:20 a.m., authorities said. Inside the home, Cheng Kang Chou, 59, who police said is a tenant there, was found with a bullet wound in his right thigh.
Chou’s wife and 9-year-old son were not harmed.
One unidentified man had escaped without injury from the home before the gunman’s siege, police said.
Police, who have discovered no motive for the shooting, said they found several large-caliber handguns and ammunition at the home.
Chen is being held at Orange County Jail with bail set at $100,000.
