Long Beach : Navy to Dedicate 10-Story Enlisted Housing Project
- Share via
The Navy plans to dedicate a 10-story building today that will house 510 men and women sailors at the Long Beach Naval Station.
The building for unmarried enlisted personnel took two years and $13.5 million to construct. It was scheduled to be dedicated by H. Lawrence Garrett III, secretary of the Navy, who will also tour other local Navy housing projects.
Housing has been one of the biggest problems as the Navy has increased the number of ships home-ported at Long Beach. Long waiting lists have developed as naval officers and sailors try to move their families into off-base Navy housing.
