Flaps ‘Out of Sync,’ DC-10 Flight Aborted

ROMULUS, Mich. — A Los Angeles-bound Northwest Airlines DC-10 with about 250 passengers aboard had flap control problems shortly after takeoff Thursday and returned to Detroit Metropolitan Airport, airline officials said.
Flight 25, which was delayed about three hours because of earlier mechanical problems, took off but soon experienced flap problems, said Alan Muncaster, an airline spokesman.
“The rear flaps were out of sync,” Muncaster said. The plane landed safely and the passengers were booked on later flights, he said.
