A Pomona Municipal Court commissioner Wednesday ordered four people held for trial on charges of assaulting an Iranian couple outside a supermarket in La Verne in May.
Commissioner Joel Hoffman ordered Scott Robert Wilson, 28, of West Covina, Timothy Robert Zaal, 25, of Glendora, William Killackey, 21, of Yorba Linda, and his sister, Amy Killackey, 19, of West Covina to appear in Pomona Superior Court for arraignment Aug. 9. William Killackey, Zaal and Wilson face additional charges of depriving individuals of their civil rights.
Manochehr Sadri, 30, and his wife, Farzaneh, 28, testified that they were assaulted by the defendants in the supermarket parking lot on May 28. The Sadris said they were speaking in Persian and walking to their car, pushing their 2-month-old baby in a shopping cart, when they heard the defendants mock their speech and shout anti-Semitic remarks.
The Sadris said the defendants, whom police initially described as “skinheads,” apparently thought the Sadris were Jewish. The defendants and their attorneys say they are not “skinheads” and the fight was merely a parking lot altercation.
