Lancaster Bicyclist, 12, Struck by Truck, Killed

A 12-year-old boy riding his bicycle in Lancaster was hit by a truck and killed, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported.
Juan Jose Olmedo was struck Tuesday when he abruptly turned his bicycle in front of a truck driven by Salvador Alvarez of Sylmar, Sgt. Ronald Worley said. The boy was pronounced dead at Antelope Valley Hospital Medical Center, Worley said.
The accident occurred when Olmedo, who was riding west in the eastbound lanes of Avenue J near 20th Street West, turned in front of the oncoming truck, which was traveling about 30 m.p.h., Worley said. Alvarez was not charged.
