Advice on Buying Art
Your article on art galleries (“Collecting Art in Orange County: You Can’t Always Get What You Want,” by Cathy Curtis, Calendar, May 28) recently was brought to my attention. I want you to know how much I enjoyed reading it! Over the years, I have pointed out some of the same issues to my clients as indicators of greater problems of which to be aware when contemplating a purchase.
Although I agree that a gallery is not validated just because it advertises in a “well-regarded publication,” I do take issue with the other side of the coin. I do not feel that a gallery is less than legitimate just because it may get ignored by these same publications. Although you have been thoughtful enough to both visit and review our exhibitions, in general, I have found that it is extremely difficult to get the attention of other critics.
We look forward to reading many more articles by Ms. Curtis.
