Franklin J. Schaffner Memorial Service Set

A memorial service for Oscar-winning director Franklin J. Schaffner, who died Sunday of cancer at his Santa Monica home at age 69, will be held at 6 p.m. July 24 at the Directors Guild of America, 7920 Sunset Blvd., Los Angeles.

Schaffner, the director of “Patton” and several other award-winning films who also won Emmys for such TV work as “Twelve Angry Men,” resigned in June as Directors Guild president because of ill health.
