A construction company has offered a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of a man who fatally shot one of its employees in Carson two weeks ago.
Barney Pitkin Jr., 55, and a fellow employee left Pitkin’s home May 12 to go to work at a Brown & Root U.S.A. construction site at an Arco oil refinery, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Dan Cox said.
Shortly after leaving in a company van, a man hiding in the vehicle shot Pitkin, killing him, Cox said.
The van crashed into a parked car and the suspect ran, limping, from the site and disappeared.
The other Brown & Root employee was not injured. Sheriff’s deputies said they do not have a motive for the slaying.
The suspect was described as a Latino male, 25 to 30 years old, 5 feet, 5 inches, weighing 130 to 135 pounds, with black hair combed back, Cox said.
